It is ironic that one of my first posts on my little blog about teaching has nothing to do with teaching at all. Except that I had to take a day off to go to court and I wanted to share it with the world. Also, I am a firm believer that lessons don't have to only be learned within the classroom walls.
To make a long story short, I had to rent out my home and ended up finding what I thought was a nice older couple from my realtor. They ended up skipping out on their rent for 3 months and I took them to small claims court. It was a success, but a long trip getting here! Here are some lessons that I learned:
1. It is never appropriate to wear jean shorts, black shoes, and white socks pulled up to your knees. Ever. Not in life. Not in court. (the defendant and various other people, not me-I am an impeccable dresser--according to myself, of course)
2. I wonder how some people make it through life
3. You should always READ through documents. If you try to use documents in court that you haven't read, it will make you look like an idiot. (again, him-not me)
